Notes | The largest source of material transported from the land to the ocean comes through sediment flow in rivers, mostly from small mountain rivers. Sediment transport is important in shaping coastal landforms, plays an important role in global carbon cycling, and transports pollutants. This article focuses on West Coast streams from Washington to California, and looks at persistent factors influencing sediment load. Particularly surprising were lingering effects of the Great Christmas Floods of 1964. |
