NotesIn 2019, a 100,000 acre area was set aside as a sanctuary for steelhead trout and other salmonids in the North Umpqua River Basin. The Frank and Jeanne Moore Steelhead Sanctuary is an important source of cold water for Steamboat Creek and the North Umpqua River. In the summer of 2019, snorkel surveys of steelhead trout and cutthroat trout were done on Steamboat Creek and its major tributaries. The surveys showed abundance and distribution of the fish, as well as landscape evaluations and identification of areas that would benefit from restoration activities.
