Notes | The Umpqua chub is a small minnow unique to the Umpqua Basin, and historically has been an important part of the basin’s food web. For 93 years, however, it was not found in the North Umpqua River Basin. That changed in 2019, when, in one day, 34 Umpqua chub were captured in a trap downstream from Winchester Dam. Does this discovery show that the chubs were simply missed in previous surveys, does it show seasonal movement, or does it represent a genuine extension of the range of the little fish? Stay tuned… |
