NotesFreshwater pearl mussels play important roles in their ecosystems. At one stage of their development, they are parasites of salmon and trout. This paper presents a tentative proposed classification of the freshwater pearl mussels. A specimen from the North Umpqua River was included in this study. Interestingly, this family seems to evolve more slowly than other bivalves.
