NotesThe Oregon Coast ESU was given a "Sensitive" status. The Coast showed good resistance to stress and long-term survival, but many streams had more than 50% hatchery spawners. Smith River hatchery program to be eliminated in 1997, to bring the percentage of hatchery spawners to 5%. No winter steelhead hatchery fish are released into the North Umpqua. Estimated percentage of hatchery spawners is 5%. For the native North Umpqua summer steelhead run, angling regulations were adjusted in 1991 to produce more spawners. Chilcote justifies changes in estimate of summer steelhead hatchery spawners on the North Umpqua, reducing the estimate to 25%. Criticizes the methodology of the Busby, et al. (1996) study. Charts.
