NotesODFW Progress Reports. In 1981, the Douglas County Dept. of Public Works banned dumping of seafood processing waste in the county landfill. The processing plants began negotiations to discharge their wastes into the Umpqua Estuary. This study, began in Sept. 1982, was intended to learn what happened to discharged wastes, their impact on water quality and the estuary's life, see if seafood wastes could enhance production of fish and shellfish, and set criteria for locating and timing waste disposal into the bay. Maps. Includes list of species seined between Cornwall Point and Salmon Harbor west basin entrance.
