"The evidence suggests that each river has its own stock of shad. A fish tagged well up any river had little chance of being recaptured, even in later years, in another river. The fish tagged lower in a river, however, were a mixed stock with some of these fish returning to the ocean and migrating to their apparent home stream." (p.17)
