Notes | Brief news item about a strike of gillnet fishers on the Umpqua that only lasted a few days in early October, 1932. The fishers “were given a market for their fish by the action of the Coast Fisheries, owned by Clyde Chase, in securing a contract for a considerable quantity of mild-cured salmon. While 1 ½ c per lb. was paid for the salmon, it is unlikely that they would have had any market at all had it not been for the curing contract…” |
