NotesIn 2014, taxonomists determined that two related species existed: a southern species (Baja to San Francisco) (Actinemys pallida) and a northern species (S.F. north to Washington state) (Actinemys marmorata) were identified. This Western pond turtle once ranged from Baja California to British Columbia, but has been found to be extinct in Canada. The IUCN considers this species "vulnerable." In Google Books.
