Notesβ€œAt some dams, counts presume that fish passing through the ladder do not move back downstream over the dam to be re-counted one or more times (recycling). The potential for this kind of error in stock estimation is present at Winchester Dam on the North Umpqua River in southwestern Oregon. This report describes the results of a study conducted in 1973 and 1974 to estimate the number of summer steelhead trout . . . that recycle at Winchester Dam.” (from the Introduction) Some recycling (less than 10%) was found.
